Now then, it is with GREAT pleasure that I am able to offer here this set from 31 May 2004 at Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, Germany.

Coil Live at Wiki has this to say about the 2004 incarnation of Coil:

"In 2004 Coil embarked on their final tour titled "Even An Evil Fatigue"."

I was made aware of this set as torrent in an Anonymous comment left on my post requesting help filling out the Live incarnations of Coil. Well bless my soul if this isn't one hell of an amazing set. Per the original torrent poster's request, I have not converted these to a lossy format, but apple lossless. Sounds TASTY in the ipod, my friends.

"January 19th, 2004
Coil will be performing at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival which takes place in Leipzig, Germany on May 28th to 31st, 2004. Other bands confirmed to appear include Clan of Xymox, Covenant and Suicide Commando, with many more to be announced."

Compare this to the Paris set(2004-05-23). I am right now. Very different energies between the shows. I'd love to hear the continuity of this tour if someone knows of the Milkweg show's existence(2004-06-03). For now, though, do your own comparison. I like the acoustic qualities of the room as translated in this recording. Very full. Broccoli. mmm mmm good. Some audience chatter, but not too bad. "At least they have a shower":) Recording ends after last song. I don't know if there was some manner of John saying thank you or such, but I should imagine he did.

According to Russian resources the ANS is considered the first electronic synthesizer in the world, technically following the 'Varifon' built by Sholpo back in the early 30's (which was an earlier attempt at conversion of optical information into sound). The various sound pieces in the Coil - ANS boxset are the work of Jhonn Balance solo, Jhonn Balance and Ossian Brown, Peter Christopherson solo, Thighpaulsandra solo, Ivan Pavlov solo and Jhonn Balance and Ivan Pavlov together. This release contains a bonus DVD with animations made by Peter Cristopherson.

It has arrived. The advance and pre-order editions are in the people's hands.
On ebay, numbers 666, 777, 888, and 1000 will be offered, proceeds going to benefit the Jhonn Balance Memorial Fund.

For those whom weren't aware, discs 15/16 (The Coil Reconstruction Kit) have been uploaded to archive.org under a Creative Commons license. These comprise all visuals and backing tracks used for the Coil Live shows from 2000 - 2004.
I have not yet had the chance to go through all, but most of it, and may I say it is the finest record of Coil I could possibly have imagined, and then some.

Well damn. Only just now am I hearing this fully. (snippets at youtube being the only other I had heard.)

A participant had this to say at their last.fm page:

"Sunn O)))'s performance was, despite the thunderous volume, only just loud enough to drown out the sound of a thousand minds being blown. Drawing on their recent album-of-the-year contender Monoliths and Dimensions they delivered what must surely be the show of the year, mixing its ferocious guitar textures with faint traces of cello and trombone, a vocal peformance to remember from Attila Csahar, and lashings of pure theatre. Oh, and dry ice. Lots of it. Down at the front it was difficult at times to see the person standing next to you never mind anyone on stage as huge clouds of the stuff billowed Csahar's robes. He was a demonic presence, possessed of an astonishing voice: moaning, growling, splitting notes Tuvan-style, shrieking metallically, even singing sometimes, and imbuing what could have been preposterous Tap tosh with a sense of real drama. He chanted the Hungarian subtitle to "Big Church" as if in sacrificial ceremony, kneeling down at the feet of Stephen O'Malley, holding up an outstretched claw and screaming. After a riff-heavy mid-section Csahar returned to the stage dressed as OH GOD I THINK I'VE GONE COMPLETELY INSANE. In the dark and smoke we could just about make out a figure wearing a cloak of mirrors, a metallic crown, and lasers on his fingers, an outfit that Lady Gaga would have rejected as "too much". This was a ludicrous and yet utterly compelling voyage across a boundary into a new dimension of the mind, with Csahar oddly convincing as the embodiment of some sort of chemically-enhanced nightmare. At the intense finale (the near-impenetrable dry ice added to a claustrophobic sensation), the sound was abruptly cut, the lights came on, the guitarists hung their guitars from the roof and there was an audible (even through earplugs) THUMP as Csahar collapsed to the ground as if dead. All within the space of about a second. This was an act of theatrical bravado which drew gasps from the assembled, and possibly the greatest ending to any show I've seen."

...and having listened, I concur and wish I could have seen in person.

He interrupted their wall of feedback after five minutes to snap at the sound engineer and insist that each member of the three piece group turn up their instruments slowly to discover the source of the seemingly grave offence."

COLOUR SOUND OBLIVION (sooner rather than later)

In case you missed it, we released an advance Patron's Edition, on Wednesday just before I got on the plane to come home, whereby if you paid immediately you would get a Certificate of Purchase, for the forthcoming Coil video Boxset. Rather unexpectedly, they sold out in about 3 hours! To everyone that has written regarding "missing it":

First of all THANK YOU so much for your enthusiasm - the response was way, way beyond our expectations.

We made this advance offer now, simply in order to raise the not-insubstantial funds to finance manufacture of the boxes and their very extensive contents (and by the way not to profit from the Edition by a single penny - though some people on the Coil-list etc seem to regard us as "profiteering" which only shows how much thought they give anything!)

I'm very grateful to report the manufacturing costs have now been achieved.

We thought it might take 3 months to sell the Patrons edition, rather than three hours! The Patron's Certificates have now all been spoken for, and will ship in the next few days. They are simply a gesture of gratitude to those (effectively randomly selected) who basically loaned us their money till the boxes are finished.

(Incidentally if you should see a Patrons Certificate on ebay or elsewhere, you will only be bidding on the Certificate itself - we will be shipping to our list of original purchasers only, and to be honest, if we find a member of the public actually "profiteering" by trying to auction a Patrons edition now, please let us know - we may accidentally 'forget' to send his box out! The real profiteers annoy the hell out of us, also!)

However the Patrons edition does promise various extras, gifts etc over and above the regular edition once it comes out, and it does not seem fair to penalise those who just missed them because the edition sold out so extraordinarily and unexpectedly quickly, so we WILL be making a "pre-order" offer, much like Amazon and the rest do.

When this becomes available, EVERYONE that makes their pre-order within four weeks of it being made will receive the same package and contents as the Patron's edition, when it is finally ready. These will only be limited by ordering time-window, not by quantity - as long as you get it together to register your pre-order within the four weeks, you will get the full package when ready. Please note we quite often get people who write saying they haven't the funds now but can we 'reserve' one. This is not usually very easy and is unfair to those who do have the money now, so please if you think you might be in this position, start now putting a little away every week, or making other arrangements to access the funds when the time comes. (We do take Paypal too, BTW...)

Due to the regulations covering credit cards, we are not allowed to open a pre-order more than 3 months before the item is shipping, and I am anticipating it will take the factory here in Thailand most of February and March to press, print and assemble everything, so we cannot open this "pre-order" facility till all of the Masters are ready to go to be "proofed" which will take the rest of this year at least, so expect the Pre-Order facility to open in early January.

We will send everyone who wrote in, an email, when the pre-order facility is opened and you will then have 4 weeks to make your order (though orders will ship on a first-come-first served-basis, so earlier is better! ,-) As with the Patrons edition, you will still have to wait up to (a maximum of) 3 months to receive your box.

Once the boxes are in and all of the Patrons boxes have shipped, as well as all the boxes that you pre-order, the rest will become the "Regular edition" These will not include the "special extras" , and will not be limited but will still be a pretty nice package with 14 or more dvds, up to 100 postcards of Coil, very nice packaging etc - People who would prefer to wait till they are actually in stock, before paying out their hard earned cash (which is completely reasonable) will be able to see actual photos of the finished collection, and will have the reassurance that they should receive it as quickly as the post or courier can manage. If we do end up selling any boxes through distributors to stores etc it will only be the regular edition, and likely considerably more expensive.

So PLEASE DON"T PANIC, or get pissed off. IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

Since you are already a Known Collector and Enthusiast (you are on our List! ,-), it is NOT the policy of Threshold House to restrict your personal access to any of the "good stuff".

Incidentally, if you are one of those odd people who for some reason only want a copy of a single Coil show, like the one where you got married... had your first Trip... orgasm... epileptic fit... (who knows ,-)? or had some other Epiphany experience, we will be making the individual show dvds available (though probably not the projection, audio backing track discs etc) some time during 2011, at a "commercial" price, and without all the box, postcards, and fun stuff - Just so you know...

As the final selections of shows and videos, and decisions about final box and packaging are made, prototypes received etc. we will be posting photos and info about them here, so if you want to watch the Collection develop, and tantalise (or torment ,-) your anticipation and imagination please look in every week or so.

If you have time over the Holidays take a moment to sit quiet and just take a few deep breaths, simply for the way you begin to feel.. because when you do, you may find that sometime in 2010 you become Inexplicably & Surprisingly Happy...

IkeSnopes was kind enough to provide a lovely clip from the IKRA showing on 29 October 2009 in Moscow. Some incredible vid to back up the sounds. And the sounds. Full and realised. Fresh yet familiar.

Coming off that high (and shortly after posting said vid) a kind soul known only as substrom sent along a link and has graciously given permission to post it here. From the IKRA show, here is AUDIO. I have been listening to it fairly non-stop for the last 6 or so hours. One long track, as it should be. xAj3z is well-represented and just so damn well done. I keep hearing nuances not yet realised. Live, it must be spectacular. A killer take on jam talay say at the end to wrap it up nicely. Highly recommended. I can only hope there will be further recordings to surface as well as vid.

Again from zodkia (thankyouthankyouthankyou:), this, though, is the last song from the set. I have it on good and reliable authority (gods bless you F) that while the rest of the set was from the Amulet Edition, this piece is entirely new. Lovely!

From expclub we have some short clips of Soisong's Madrid set from last year:

IcaroLondon has graced us to the pre-show antics of Sleazy and Ivan in Turin 2008 prior to the reworking of Angelic Conversation.

Addendum 25 july 2009:
Four will remain here for a little bit longer because as stated below, the sets represented thereon are available elsewhere here at wassonii. Ostensibly, all four will be on CSO and so, I leave you with 4. And now, back to the original post...

Currently, Live One and Three have sold out at the Theshold House Shop with no intent of restock until after CSO (from TH: "and when sold will be withdrawn for the time being, although video/audio and "karaoke projections" versions of most of the different Coil live shows will be available (in time for Christmas, fingers crossed!) on the much awaited Coil Video boxset; "Colour, Sound, Oblivion"")
At the time of this writing, Live Two is available in LIMITED QUANTITIES from the TH Shop.
Live Four hasn't been available for some time.
Theoretically, all of these will be on CSO, which unkle sleazE will (hopefully) be putting the finishing touches on CSO after the TG tour wraps up.
The two sets combined to form Live Four are available on this blog, just look for the Coil Live subject link.
With an ear toward making you want to, have to buy CSO, hear what will be part.

Taiga ((pronounced tie-guh, I've come to find out): definition - "Coniferous or boreal forest, located in a band across northern North America, Europe, and Asia. This terrestrial biome also occurs at high elevations.") Remains

I rather like the tones with which this piece plays and the manipulations of Cobb on my sonic intake. I hope you do too. Rare that I care for North American drone outside of NWW collabs and related entities(and I'm from here:), though that opinion has been changing of late I am happy to say(and somewhat chagrinned). Only fairly recently have I found my way to Students of Decay, Alex Cobb, and Taiga Remains, but it has so far been worth my investment of time for a proper listen, if you will. Really good work on this and Wax Canopy. Follow some of the links below for further infos and offerings. As always, look to the pictures to see what you can hear. Wax Canopy still available from the label. Bonus edition sold out.

Fairing's Chapel. Bonus with Taiga Remains release Wax Canopy on digitalis arts & crafts editions (limited to 500 of which this 3" was companion for the first 100). From the digitalis site: "Taiga Remains is the brainchild of Cincinnati's Alex Cobb. Over the past few years he has developed a signature sound that blurs the line between blissed-out guitar work and atonal, blown-out dirges." Sample of "returning breath" (track 2 of wax canopy) available from digitalis.

My aural initiation to taiga came about from a mild obsession with Pocahaunted. Through those searches, I came upon Spire Ground A Bored Fortress Compilation and was and still am quite enamoured with this track. The whole thing is likely still floating about, but I just had to share the TR track.

"What was the purpose of the Prescription label limited editions of 99 copies vinyl?
Gary Ramon: Prescription was a good idea, but it eventually became too much after the 2nd series. The idea was to copy the idea of the private pressings phenomenon from the 60s/70s. But to make it different, we got all the artists involved to design the sleeves themselves. I had a studio in London at the time, which was there to help me write and come up with a new Sun Dial album... So we just invited bands down to make albums. In some ways it was a crazy idea and never to be repeated... We had a lot of people asking us to make a 3rd series, but in the end, I found it took too much time. It was a great artistic thing to do but financially a bad move! I'm vaguely thinking of making a 3rd series at some stage, but it would be made in a totally different way -it would have to!"

"The Avatars"
The Avatars is a title of a book by one of my favourite mystical poet /writers George Russell who was Irish. He wrote under the name A.E. which was short for AEON. He has writen some of the most inspiring and inspired prose about direct enchantment and trancendental communion with Nature. I mention him in the COIL song Bee-stings (?) when I sing "Don't believe A.E. See for yourselves the summer fields" - A plea for experiential outings, pilgrimages etc. Get out there - Travel! It's in both the journey and the destination...
Jimmy Page once declared he believed Kenneth Anger was an Avatar. A semi-God-form , a pure particular Spirit incarnated on this earth. A view he later renounced when they fell out. I think he was right myself.
The strange sound is a Syrinx sythesiser. A very scarce beast indeed... The track was my attempt to recall vivid childhood memories of when I used to try and sneak downstairs and watch the 'Quatermass' programmes on TV through a gap in the door.
"The Mothership and The Fatherland"
An attempt to explore the cosmic connection between 'flying saucers' and Krautrockery, UFOs and LFOs. Astral Acidity - LSD being a catalyst one supposes. The resultant progeny of the marriage of the two elements results in the birth of the "little lost children" who Kate Bush is singing about for us. The end has John speaking in tongues - Insect jabber.
The whole album really was recorded originally in two days over Samhain (Halloween) in a studio located below the level of the river Thames in ancient Southwark. An area the artist Austin Osman Spare frequented and knew particularly well. The theme of water, the sea, lunar influences again figure deeply in the whole of the album. We redid some of the material at our new studio that has a view of the sea.

Lunar.
Tuna.
Tuner.
The inner sleeve photo portraits were taken by Peter Christopherson and John Balance of each other during the total eclipse of the sun. "See the Black Sun Rise...".
"2nd Sun Syndrome"
Loops of anguish caused by the feeling of being a second son in a family lineage. Changed from "son" on the original vinyl release. Now turned and tuned into intergalactic transmissions. Sex with Sun Ra. We have our voice-mail system linked up to SETI main computor - It searches for intelligent life in space while we sleep, in dead time.
"The Sea Priestess"
We thank Frater Purdurabo on the sleeve of the record. This is a magickal name Aleister Crowley used. It means "I will endure". A lot of the lyrics are based on Aleister crowleys own written descriptions of the so called 'obscene' murals on the walls of The Abbey Of Thelema at Cefalu in Sicily. The place still exists. Peter and I made a pilgrimage there last year and while we there discovered a lost painting on an internal door, the door to his own bedroom, the fabled "Chambre de Couchmares". It was a very roughly done Chinese style astral landscapewith waterfalls and pagodas. All what remains of the original murals rediscovered and painstakingly restoredand by Kenneth Anger in the 50's are crumbling and devastatingly beyond restoration now. I spent the day there photographing what remains, bitterly crying at the terrible loss of such a direct and beautiful magickal temple. The rest of the lyrics were written as a result of experiments with a small obsidian scrying mirror. The sub-concious surfacing. Brion Gysin would scry for hours to gain entrance into the place "where light writes in space". Whatever pollutants and poisons Manunkind pours into the seas, they too will endure.
"I don't want to be the one"
I feel like this at times. Reticent and resentful and then, in turn, scared and angry. Overpowered by what visions I have to endure. I've had visions ever since I was a child. They used to overwhelm me so much I used to fight against them. I had no context for them. Now I use them and accept them. Or try to.
"MÜÜR"
Gold, frankincense and MUUR. Balm of the sea. A joinery of MU and UR. MU being a mythical ancient landmass now lying submerged somewhere underneath the Pacific ocean. An Eastern version of Atlantis. UR meaning 'proto' and before now. At the formation of. On saying the word MUUR out loud I believe I am saying one of the first words ever forced out of the throat of man. A Proto-Mantra. The voice is my voice transformed into that of the Sea Priestess.
"It's the sail of the century". I am talking about the shortsighted rape and plunder and poison of the sea for commerce.
"God saved me from drowning, then kicked me to death on the beach".

Well, I had a request and usually I am unable to fufill such things, but I am able to offer due to the sublime kindness of a most gracious fellow lover of Coil (and double thanks, as you'll see) the Prescription edition of Astral Disaster. Further back in these here postings is the Thresholdhouse edition. ...or so I thought.
I now know for 100% that the edition posted previously at wassonii (as Sleepless from Latvia tried to tell me in the comments) is indeed the Acme/Prescription edition. I'll post the recent acquisition for a little bit here (192)and will update the erroneous post. As always, I mean well, I lay claim to being a fan, but not necessarily to being the most knowledgable fan. Och well, at least there's a lesson learned. Ummm, I guess I'll be needing to hear the TH edition, then, as that's what I thought I was hearing:) Anyway, good infos follow.
This will likely come back into print at some point, so when that happens, I will pull it.

This set has me going out on a limb to say that thus far, of the 2002 sets, this is the clearest recording, the finest channeling by Balance as well as his rapport with the audience and the sounds being generated/created within and around by all members of Coil. Moving on many levels.
Let me know what you think. (Not bad for an audience recording.-)

Now then, before you get all excited, I loaded this through Rapidshare, so there are many files involved. That's how it is.
This is the show that can be found at Youtube in parts

although I think this a better quality, I am not objective. Definitely for the completist whom does not currently have it.
As with the audio files, when Colour Sound Oblivion is officially announced, should this set be a part, it will be removed.

These pics are from the massimo and pierce anarcocks site and are used without permission, but there are several more of this set at their site, and more from others in this incarnation of Coil Live.

This set is part of the Dutch Radio 4 Supplements (disc 4, to be exact), but this entry has the tracks separated, so I don't feel too badly posting this show for the sake of completeness.

I can't find from whence I culled the pic. Will make proper note once I locate it.

Do you remember how the vinyls were sidereal and the cds straight forward? I can't speak to that for this, as I have no turntable currently, nor have I yet heard the Ape tracks in this set, nor has The New Backwards yet been released on cd. What I have heard and what has been pretty much the only music to which I have listened since this past Wednesday is The New Backwards from within The Ape Of Naples Box thanks to a kind friend with turntable and the means to transfer.

Absolutely brilliant. Please take a moment to scope out Jonathon Dean's review at Brainwashed (link provided below). I've included his comments from the list without permission, but they are so spot on, I had to share the knowledge.

What I cannot share is the entire album, as the cd with extra tracks is imminent and I have too much respect for Sleazy and the memory of John to do so.

(from a recent thread on the coil list. author j. dean who's review of The New Backwards can be found at Brainwashed)> "While researching my review of The New Backwards, I found out some information about the exact timeline of the famous "Backwards demos" that might be common knowledge to some veteran Coil fans, but was new to me.For a long time, I had labored under the assumption that the so-called "Backwards" demos were recorded in New Orleans, at Trent Reznor's studio, and represented work done by Coil intended for an album called "Backwards" to be released on Nothing Records. This was my impression, and while I can't point to any one source for this, I thought this was the accepted version of things. Turns out that this is very wrong.The demo tape containing Elves, Egyptian Basses, Simenon, Crumb Time, etc. etc. is actually from the very early 1990s, from sessions recorded not long after LSD, in the UK. These demos were recorded for Torso Records and were leaked very soon after, and the bootlegs have been making the rounds ever since. As everyone knows, these demo recordings were instrumental, and though they are often great, are more like rough sketches than finished compositions.After doing these demos, Coil got sidetracked with other projects like Black Light District and other things that seemed to them more interesting to pursue at the time. The demos sat dormant, for the most part, until...Some vocals and extra bits were recorded 5-6 years later, in the mid-1990s when the Coil/NIN connection happened. "Cold Cell" and "AYOR" and (I think...) a version of "Fire of the Mind" (maybe also "The Test," "Sex With Sun Ra" and a few other tracks) were recorded around this time, but shelved indefinitely, except for a few things that got out via Songs of the Week or comp contributions.The album names Backwards/International Dark Skies/God Please Fuck My Mind For Good/The World Ended A Long Time Ago were all announced or rumored at one point or another, but it was basically the creative second-guessing of fans that conflated these names with the Torso demos and (to some extent) the Nothing Records album, as if they were all the same thing, a sort of Freudian dream condensation of all the things Coil hadn't finished yet.Then right towards the end, about 2002-3, some more recording sessions were held with the intention of bringing some of these tracks to completion. This is probably where vocals like "Nature is a Language," "The Most Accomplished Surgeon," etc. came from.Everything wasn't put together and finished until Sleazy and Danny Hyde returned to the material in 2007.So TNB actually represents an almagamation of recordings made over a period of nearly 18 years, many different time periods and recording sessions that were never necessarily meant to go together. In this sense, TNB is even more impressive than it seemed at first to me, as a work of creative synthesis, a recovery and resuscitation of a pile of mismatched fragments and abandoned ideas and sketches."

This is Coil's live performance at Megalithomania!, an event which took place on October 12th, 2002 at The Conway Hall in London and was released as bonus in the Coil Live boxset entitled The Key To Joy Is Disobedience.

Again from J. Dean via Brainwashed:

"It's a very nice bonus indeed, as this performance is unique among Coil's live history, and marks a sort of turning point for the group. Megalithomania! was a celebration of sacred sites and standing stones as expressed through history, folklore, art and sound. Basically, everything that Julian Cope was on about in his mammoth tome "The Modern Antiquarian." For this special event, Coil performed a long, drawn-out permutation on "The Universe is a Haunted House," turning the piece into a slowly evolving ambient sound sculpture involving the ghostly sound of water droplets, quietly droning synths, and a particularly spectral vocal improvisation from Balance."

This is, of course, out of print, but an oh-so-necessary part of the Coil Live experience.

Potentially on Colour Sound Oblivion, as with the other Coil Live representations here, this will be removed when CSO is released.
